Bernice Marie Young

Bernice Marie Young (nee Hendel), age 76, passed peacefully at home with family on June 15, 2022.

Bernice was born on August 2, 1945, in St. Louis, MO to Ben Hendel and Catherine Brown. She married Jackie Young, Sr., of St. Louis, MO.

Although Bernice had little downtime since she mostly put others’ needs before her own, she enjoyed planting her favorite flower, red roses. Her signature look included red lipstick and red nail polish. Of the Blues and RnB music, Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye, and Al Green were popular artists that could be found in her playlist. Family and friends will miss her contagious humor and incredible resilience.

Bernice was predeceased by her parents, her four siblings – Ruth, Virginia, Julia, and Albert, her son Jackie, Jr., and her grandson Jonathan.

Bernice is survived by her six siblings – Evelyn, Carol, Alice, Karen, Kathy, and Grover, her five children – Billy, Frank, Chris, Tina, and Michelle, her ten grandchildren – Justin, Jessica, Jeremy, Katelyn, Ashley, Megan, Robert, Jr., Aubree, James, and Joseph, and her three great-grandchildren – Uvaldo, Diana, and Asariah.

A Celebration of Life will commence at 10am on 7/8/22 in Hoffmeister South County Chapel located at 1515 Lemay Ferry, St. Louis, MO, 63125. It will begin with a viewing at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am, then concludes with gravesite service around 12pm.
