Jim Lunn peacefully passed away on October 10, 2023 at the age of 88. Jim was born to parents Claude and Florence Lunn on April 1, 1935, in Akron, Ohio. He was the oldest of three and earned degrees in music education from Akron University and Kent State . In 1957, he married the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Bette Ann. He moved to Pueblo, Colorado, in 1970, called to the mountain west by a love of the outdoors. Jim will be remembered fondly for shaping the lives of and developing a passion for music in countless students through over the course of his long career as a band teacher at Pueblo School District #60. After he retired, Jim selflessly gave his time to support the arts in his community by supporting young musicians and music educators in Pueblo. He shared his musical gifts as an organist at Wesley and Avondale United Methodist Churches and was the music director for productions at the Damon Runyon Repertory Theatre. He was active in the Colorado Music Education Association and was honored to be inducted into the Colorado Music Educator Hall of Fame (2003-2004). Jim loved the mountains and passed on that passion for the outdoors to his kids, and their kids, which will be his legacy. He took his camera with him everywhere he went, and his photographs document a life well lived, and an unmistakable appreciation for all of God’s creations. Jim will be remembered as a quietly loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather that allowed the light of others to shine, while he quietly enjoyed the glow. He was a man of few words, but his unwavering support, countless thoughtful gestures, and the way he consistently put the happiness of others first, demonstrated his love in a way that left no room for doubt. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Bette Lunn (Bendell) and his brother Phil Lunn; and survived by his children, Donna Solverud (Lunn) and her husband Truman, David Lunn and his wife Lori, both of whom he passed his love of music to and are music educators; as well as his sister Marti Lantz (Lunn) and her husband David. He will be missed dearly by his seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and students. No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Colorado Music Educators Association, which supports music education in Colorado, which was Jim’s life work. https://cmeaonline.org/donate/
